Damien Bates

Dr. Bates is a board-certified Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon with over 13 years of clinical experience in both the US and Australia. Dr. Bates has holds an MD from the University of Sydney and a PhD in Developmental Biology from the University of Melbourne. He has clinical and scientific expertise in tissue engineering and cellular based approaches to tissue regeneration. Prior to Organogenesis, Dr. Bates was Global Medical Director for Baxter Healthcare Corporation supporting the biologics Tisseel VH S/D, ARTISS and the medical device TricOs(tm). He was currently responsible for Organogenesis' clinical development strategies and oversees all medical components of the clinical development process for its next generation cell therapy product VCT01TM and is responsible for post-marketing medical support of Apligraf(r). Organogenesis is a leading regenerative medicine company based in Canton, Massachusetts that possesses the unique skill set to take complex living tissues from research and development, through manufacturing, to successful commercialization. In 1998, Organogenesis became the first company to gain FDA approval for Apligraf(r), a living tissue containing a complex extracellular matrix and human neonatal fibroblasts and keratinocytes. After leaving Organogenesis, Dr. Bates became the Chief Medical Officer & Head of Research at SanBio.
